Alex is a bruja – one of the most powerful in her generation. However, she hates and fears her magic and she wants her magic gone. So at her Deathday celebration when she performs a spell to get rid of her magic, she couldn’t possibly imagine the consequences. The spell backfires and her entire family disappears into Los Lagos. Desperate to fix her mistake and save her family, she travels to Los Lagos with a brujo boy she doesn’t trust.

Labyrinth Lost is a fantastical, magical, and enchanting read. If this isn’t on your TBR already, I suggest you add it immediately and I’d highly recommend if you enjoy books like Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Labyrinth Lost is an original and compelling book filled with lots of culture, mythology and tradition. The world building was exceptional and it was definitely the highlight of this book.

I loved Alex – I loved both her strength and vulnerability. Her character development was really well done. At the beginning of the novel she feared her own power and was very uncertain of herself, but throughout the novel we saw her learn to control her power and eventually accept it. She accepted the responsibility and the role she played in sending her family to Los Lagos, but I loved the determination she had to fix it and get her family back. Nova was an interesting character. Not highly likeable, but complex and well fleshed out with complex motivations. Rishi was also a good character, but I do wish we had seen more of her, and more of her relationship with Alex… hopefully something that will be explored further in the sequel?

There were some good family and sisterly dynamics, lots of action and adventure, lots of diversity, and a bi protagonist. Overall, an engaging and gripping story that I highly recommend.
