The Impostor Queen by Sarah Fine: Last year I read Of Metaland Wishes and I was blown away by Sarah Fine’s talent for creating such compelling characters. The Impostor Queen was no different and I found myself enamoured with Elli and her passion, determination and willingness to learn for herself. The world building was spot on, the characterization in-depth, and the romance exactly what I was looking for.
This is Where it Ends by Marieke Nijkamp: This is a novel about a school shooting – a tragic event that happens often in the USA. It is a powerful, harrowing and haunting novel about the effect a shooting like this one has on an entire community. It’s told from four different perspectives in 54 minutes. This is a book that it going to be talked a lot about – perhaps controversially so. But it is a dark novel, with a diverse cast, that is not perfect but it is a good debut novel.
