‘Accidents happen. Our bones shatter, our skin splits, our heart break. We burn, we drown, we stay alive.’

For as long as Cara can remember every year towards the end of October they have an accident season, a time which has been plagued by deaths of relatives and from then, the family have become accident prone. They break bones, they drown, they fall and each year the knives gets locked away and they wear extra layers. They can never seem to escape the accidents, despite how careful they are.

I absolutely loved The Accident Season, and I already had a feeling before I even picked this up that I would love it anyway, so it came as no surprise. If you loved books such as The Night Circus or The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender, then I have a feeling this book may be just for you. The Accident Season is magical and haunting and downright beautiful.

Moira Fowley-Doyle is a fantastic author who manages to twist the tale so finely and bring it all together nicely. The Accident Season is a outstanding debut novel which is unique and beautifully written which drew me in from the very first page. It is a story of family, friendship, secrets, and bravery.

The characters were the highlight of The Accident Season for me. Each one was so unique and interesting individually, but their dynamics and relationships with each other was even better. Alice and Cara, Alice and Bea, Cara and Bea, Cara and Sam etc etc. It shows a truly talented author to put so much depth into the characters and relationships with each other, yet have the plot just as equally strong. Moira Fowley Doyle has just become a favourite of mine and I will definitely keep an eye out for future books.

A favourite of mine this year and I wholeheartedly recommend.
