I was never destined to save the world. I was the one who destroyed it.
When Kennedy Waters finds her mothers dead body one evening everything she once believed in has changed. When the vengeful spirit that killed her mother tries to kill Kennedy, she is thrust into a supernatural and paranormal world and she finds out her mother was part of a ancient society. The Legion. A society where all five members died in one night. Now Kennedy must take her mothers place in the Legion who’s aim was to destroy the demon the society let loose many years ago.
I went into this with really high expectations, and I was sadly disappointed. Unbreakable was just OK for me. So I really feel like I’m not going to have much to say about this book so it’s only going to be a short review. There seemed to be a lot of elements of Supernatural in Unbreakable, such as the rock salt and devils trap. However, Kami Garcia did, to a degree, make it her own and she did add some original elements into the plot.
Now on to the romance. There was a love triangle, as I expected as soon as the twins, Jared and Lukas, were introduced. Despite my dislike for love triangles, it wasn’t what made me dislike the romance altogether. It was incredible cheesy. Like really cheesy. I don’t think I’ve read a book in a while where the romance makes me cringe and roll my eyes. It’s the type of romance where they both reach for something and their hands brush, or the girl falls and the boy catches her with his arm going around her waist. Literally both of those happened in the book.
Overall, if you try to just ignore the romance aspect, it was an OK read. The plot has a lot of potential for the upcoming books. The characters were OK. So yeah, if you are looking for a paranormal romance, I suggest you at least give this a look.
